friendly country pub |

The villagers of Great Massingham campaigned for nearly six years to have the pub (previously the Rose and Crown) re-opened, and to stop this attractive building from being converted into housing. The new owners - Mark and Jess Lapping, Dominic Symington and Steve Kilham never gave up on their dream of restoring the pub. As a result of the tireless community action group, a far-sighted local authority and funding from the new owners the pub was rescued, renovated and reopened in December 2006. The Dabbling Duck plays a vital part in the heart of the local community and is a focal point for Great and Little Massingham. At least one of the owners is on site at any given time to gauge peoples' reactions and to ensure that everything runs smoothly. The pub is situated between the two large ponds which are inhabited by numerous friendly ‘dabbling ducks’ (from The Wind in the Willows – “ducks go a dabbling – up tails all!”). |
