Eating at The Dabbling Duck
Now listed in the The Good Food Guide we combine good food, good wine with a friendly village pub atmosphere. Families are welcome especially when weather permits into the large attractive gardens with children’s play-area. Well-behaved dogs are also allowed in the front restaurant and bar……we even have a doggy menu!
We have a good drinking trade, busy evenings where our rustic elm bar is often propped up by locals and the hops hanging from the beams are a nod to our variety of real ales – recognised by CAMRA. Enjoy a pint of real ale with one of our bar snacks?
The pub also has a carefully selected wine list, hopefully we have something for everyone to enjoy. If you are a gin lover we have selected thirteen different ones, we also now have our very own Mucky Duck gin, which we are particularly proud of.
Dale Smith is our resident chef heading our DD kitchen, his style is modern pub food but you will find Asian influences included too, he also understands that ‘pub classics’ should always be on our menu – after all we are a local country pub.
Dale is passionate about his job and the produce available to him in Norfolk, often he is using produce straight from the farm to our kitchen, which he finds really exciting.
We try to keep our carbon footprint low using seasonal local produce wherever possible. Our meat and game come from two local small -holdings who sell exclusively to us and from our own land where we raise (shorthorn) beef for our own use.
The DD is particularly proud of its game dishes, according to season and availability pheasant, partridge, pigeon woodcock and venison are all on the menu, even our apple juice is home produced!
So you can see we are all advocates of ‘keeping it local’ in the meat department but Dale is aware that there is a massive turn towards embracing plant-based food and he feels there is no reason why that can’t be as delicious as the rest of our menu.
If you are vegan or vegetarian we always have options for you on our menu, do call ahead if you have any special requirements.
Below are some sample menus including some for children to give you a “taste” of what we do. Besides our regular menu there is a specials board which changes often plus a bar snacks menu.
It is essential that you phone to book a table at weekends. Please note for tables over 12 we take a £100 deposit .
We try our very best to accommodate guests who do not have a reservation for dinner, however you may experience considerable delays if you do not reserve a table. During the week we still advise to book a table to avoid disappointment.
